The Pediatric Dentist as CEO - Randall K. Berning, J.D., LL.M.

The pediatric dentist, as the Chief Executive of the practice, can advantageously apply the following practice planning elements. They are: practice and personal vision statement, applied leadership skills, decision making effectiveness and planning for practice succession. These areas form the basis for a satisfying and successful professional practice. With the concepts and tools discussed in this presentation, including strategic planning, the sophistication of contemporary pediatric practice is increased, the talent of the doctor(s) engaged and, coupled with staff, focused on the quality and type of patient care desired.

Two objectives guide this presentation. First, increased doctor capability and effectiveness to guide the growth oriented practice into the future is achieved when the pediatric dentist applies CEO level concepts and tools for the benefit of patients. Second, gaining an understanding of the nexus that CEO concepts represent to outcomes in practice administration adds to the vitality of the practice to meet the challenges of growth. Specifically, it is the well developed practice vision and implementation of objectives that leads to measuring the effectiveness of the leadership of the pediatric dentist CEO and can result in increase practice value.
