220 - Anderson Memorial Lecture: Pediatric Deformities Presentations - Bruce B Horswell, M.D., D.D.S., M.S., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Horswell will present two topics, "Crooked Heads and Faces...Endemic and Confusing" and "Contemporary Management of Cleft Lip and Palate"
The first lecture will present two pediatric entities, one of which is rising in the U.S. Deformational plagiocephaly is a common craniofacial problem in America and is increasing in prevalence. The etiology, evaluation process and management will be discussed. Another entity, craniosynostosis, and more serious, is similar to deformational plagiocephaly but needs to be distinguished as synostosis has pathologic implications which must be addressed surgically. The entire spectrum of both entities will be presented.
The second lecture will present current management of cleft lip and palate from the newborn period to adolescence. Team care will be emphasized and staged, functional surgical care will be thoroughly presented.
Following these two lectures a short interactive case presentation will allow the audience to engage in a team case discussion which will highlight the complexities and challenges in treating children with clefts.
